One of the first things I tell clients that I train in Social Media is to create original content, yep..just like I am doing here on this blog. Since we create websites besides the social media training, I find that they are initially overwhelmed just launching the website. After all, they have to give me original text for all the services they offer, provide me with graphics, logos, and approving the design.
In my busyness of getting Vizred off the ground this year, I simply did not blog. So of course, I took this #smcsfblogoff challenge knowing full well it would be difficult to do it every day. I am motivated because there are other friends doing it and as a collective we get each other revved up.
But what I see happen to many small business owners who I train is that they simply don’t do it even if I have talked my brains out to get them into the right mindset. For example, just today, I was catching up with adding media to our Facebook page from several events in the last month. I used to load the pictures right away…but because now I am busy helping other clients do this, my media gets in the bottom of the to do list.
I actually have several proposals to prepare and should have done those first, but thought I would share this today since I am also a small business owner facing the same challenges that my own clients have. So here are some simple and easy tips to get a jump start:
- Create a publishing schedule on a calender and post it as a to do item. Write it down.
- Have an MP3 handy in the car or in your pocket or purse, or simply use recording tools on your smart phone and record a post once you get an idea. Later you can transcribe it and add it as a podcast as well.
- Allow the words to flow and just sit down and type.
- Find You Tube videos or infographics in your niche and embed the image or video on your blog post. And add a small commentary. All your content doesn’t have to be original.
- If you are involved in any community organizations even if it doesn’t have to do with your business, create a category called Events or Community and write about it.
I have done alot of video blogging and I can tell you from personal experience, that it takes a huge amount of time. In later posts I will give you some tips and tools for this. I did not want to mention videos in this post to keep it simple. As you know the saying…K.I.S.S.. and that is the key to get a jump start. If you spend too many hours on one blog post in the beginning, you will probably give up if you are a newbie and don’t have much following in your networks to spread your message. And besides, we all need to relax, have fun and have a life.
Chime in. What is your biggest challenge?
