A few days ago, I tweeted that I was caving in to some dulce de leche ice cream. About an hour or two later, I got a reply from @Foodie ChatsMia and then got retweeted by @redmangomiami. Now, I don’t know if the person tweeting from those Twitter handles is the same person and for all I know it could be someone I know in the Miami Social Media scene.
So why am I titling this post Smart Twitter Marketing ~ Sort Of? Smart, because they are on top of the local business scene and they did get on the conversation in a light positive way. I suppose Foodie Chats retweeted me and then they saw the tweet from them. As of this writing, @redmangomiami is only following 31 businesses or groups. That’s a good thing. The only person they are following is @dankimredmango or Dan Kim, the CEO of Red Mango. They have tweeted 692 times since January 22, 2011 and are only following 31 people..errr…targeted local business groups?
Now for the Sort of..
When I decided to write this post, I send out a tweet that said, “Where do you deliver?” I got a reply right away..with a hashtag! Ok the reply was #SOBE. Yeah I get it, they deliver to SOBE and answered my question, but it seems kind of stiff and hurried. They only have 57 followers so I am sure the stream is not going a mile a minute with @ responses to them. A better tweet would have been something like this: “South Beach, come by and we’ll give you 10% off . #SOBE” I went out of my way to interact for the 2nd day in a row. You would think I would get a more personable response. They did favorite my Tweet though, I suppose wondering when I am going to show up at their store? Or is it just to give a report to management?
So we, the local hyper active Twitterati in South Florida, are minced meat and not worthy of being followed? It seems they certainly did good research to find those 31 Twitter accounts. But what about the people??? Don’t they know that in South Florida, we make up Tweetups for about any kind of food, including desserts like the #cupcakecrawl ?
If the person handling this Twitter account would have seen my last Tweets and seen the hashtag #smcsflblogoff which is all over the place this week, wouldn’t they have been smarter to already follow the 33 bloggers in South Florida? If they were even smarter, they would have delivered frozen yogurt to all the bloggers for their hard work and dedication on this 30 Day Blog Challenge initiated by one of the most active Social Media Clubs in the United States with 1251 members.
I’m sure their frozen yogurt is good, but their Twitter strategy definitely does not taste as good as my Haagen Dasz dulce de leche ice cream…even if it had more calories. What’s is your take on it? Chime in!
And shhhh. Don’t say anything. I’m going to Tweet this with #smcsfblogoff AND #SOBE hashtag not mentioning them to see if they find it;)
