Facebook contests are a great way to engage your fans and followers.  You cannot randomly start a contest on your business or personal page without risking that Facebook might shut you down without notice. Facebook doesn’t want to assume any liability for any contest and therefore requires you to use 3rd party apps and follow very strict rules. It is not easy to gather a loyal fan base, so it is important to start out in the right direction.

A successful Facebook contest has incentives for the user to join your contest. Some examples are:

  • Photo contest where users submit a photo during a specific period of time, and then have their friends vote and share information about the contest, including your brand’s name on their walls.
  • Offer a discount on one of your product or services to fans only. When fans like your page, they get access to a coupon code that is applied to their next purchase or visit to your physical location.
  • Use quizzes to ask you Facebook fans to pick the right answer out of a group of options and get them to sign up as a thanks for participating.
